Who Did the First Translation of the Italian Bible?

Many think that Martin Luther (1483-1546) was the first to promote the translation of the Holy Texts into the various national languages. In fact, the first Italian version of the Bible was printed in 1471 by a Camaldolense monk: Nicolò Malermi. In the first decades of the fifteenth century, the translation of Antonio Brucioli, the first layman to have ventured into this undertaking, was also a success. For the types of Lucantonio Giunti, the humanist first published a translation of the Gospels: it immediately spread, thanks to the small size that allowed to market the work in pocket formats, and therefore much more manageable than the cumbersome Bible in-folio of Malermi.
