Between 1923 and 1924, Don Giacomo Alberione (1884-1971) presented to his young “sons and daughters” the first Statute of the Biblical Society, which in the future would later take the name of Sobicain (International Catholic Biblical Society). In the November 1923 issue he launched “The House”, a priority mission characterized by the motto: “The Gospel in every family and in schools, at 1 lira.” To support the initiative, he explains how in the Bible the great protagonists became such only because they fed on the Word that they then announced. For the first time was mentioned “a ‘biblical section’ among the initiatives of the Pious Society of Saint Paul that thrive in the beneficial shadow of the Divine Master, the Queen of the Apostles and Saint Paul.”
In January 1924, everything became official. Offering best wishes for a happy New Year and taking stock of 1923, Fr Alberione added: “We must remember a very special initiative: the Biblical Society was initiated and immediately met with wide approval and wide favors. The work begins with an edition of the Holy Gospel of forty thousand copies: and we trust in God’s mercy that the motto was chosen – The Gospel in every family – will soon become a reality.”
