The celebration of the Month of the Bible began in 1971, in the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte. Promoted with the support of the Servicio de Animación Bíblica – Paulinas (SBP), the Month of the Bible gained national scope and was incorporated into the calendar of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB). Thus every September the Church in Brazil intensifies its efforts to bring the faithful closer to the Word of God through subsidies, training and other initiatives aimed at deepening the creative dialogue between the Word, communities and individuals. The Month of the Bible is celebrated in September on the occasion of the feast of St. Jerome, which is celebrated on the 30th. It was he who translated the original biblical texts – from Hebrew and Greek into Latin. Each year, the Month of the Bible presents a theme to inspire the reflections of the faithful. In the year 2023, the invitation is for everyone to dedicate themselves to deepen their studies on the Letter to the Ephesians, starting with the theme: “Put on the new humanity(cf. Eph 4:24)”.
