The Extraordinary Testimony of a Soldier Saved by the Book of the Gospel

Today, 26 November, is the memory of Blessed James Alberione (1884-1971), founder of the Pauline Family. To remember this great apostle of the Word of God, we report a significant testimony that flows from the mission of the Paulines of Lviv, in Ukraine.

A copy of the Gospel 2022. A word for every day of the São Paulo Editions was in a backpack in the back seat of a military car when the Ukrainian soldier Yuri Bovt was under Russian fire. One of the bullets, which could have been fatal, stopped at the center of the Gospel book. Although wounded, Yuri survived the gunshots and recounts with gratitude this extraordinary event. «Going to war, I wanted to bring with me the Gospel of every day, small and pocket. I always have it with me, since the beginning of the war…». Gospel 2022. A word for every day is published every year by the Paulines of Lviv. When this year’s edition was to be printed there were difficulties in purchasing the paper. A much thicker paper was exceptionally used to maintain a low price. The publisher’s employees were not satisfied at the time. After this event however, where paper saved a life, they look at their work from a grateful perspective.
