Make the Gospel understandable to the indigenous people of Cuyonon that will enable them to “connect with God”. The peoples who speak the Cuyonon language are settled on the island of Palawan and other islands of the central Philippines: with this intent was recently presented in Puerto Princesa a translation of the New Testament in Cuyonon, coinciding with the 151 anniversary of the first Mass celebrated in Palawan and while the Apostolic Vicariates of Puerto Princesa and Taytay (which cover the entire island) celebrate the 400 years of the arrival of the Christian faith in the Palawan area, which occurred in 1622, when the Augustinian missionaries arrived in the city of Cuyo. Cuyonon is a regional language spoken in Palawan, Cuyo and the surrounding islands. It’s classified by the Summer Institute of Linguistics as belonging to a subgroup of the Visayan, the largest ethno-linguistic Filipino group.
