Rooted in the Catholic tradition and open to ecumenical, interreligious and cultural perspectives, the Catholic Bible Society (SOCABI) Its mission is to promote knowledge of the Bible and its interpretation
“The Bible is the foundation of our society in Western Europe. It becomes a book that unites and can certainly generate a genuine ecumenical experience. The Bible is the great code of Western culture that gives us keys to understanding the world in which we live.”
This was the starting point that saw five hundred scholars gather in Syracuse for the annual conference of the European Association of Biblical Studies (EABS), an international nondenominational association that promotes academic-level studies on the Bible and related topics. Exponents from all Christian denominations-Catholics, Protestants, Anglicans and Orthodox-but also from the Jewish world, from all over Europe, and then the United States and Israel. This was recalled in a note released today by the Diocese of Syracuse. All around the “book par excellence” engaged in the great effort of the interpretation of the book, which can give prominence to the great themes beginning with peace and humanization. The annual conference, an academic event where biblical scholars meet to publicize their scholarly research, was hosted by the St. Methodius Higher Institute of Religious Sciences in Syracuse.
