Adam and Eve, the Tower of Babel, the Big Bang, the Passion of Christ, and many others: not everyone can put in song concepts and references so high with knowledge of the cause to question our destiny, especially if you have 24 years as Anastasio. The rapper and winner of X Factor 2018, aka Marco Anastasio from Meta, has grown during these two years of the pandemic. At the heart of his song, Babele, is the biblical pages where we find the language, the “logos”. Babel collapsed because everyone spoke different languages, and language had become alienated from itself and reality. Today we find ourselves in a second Babel where our words no longer have any meaning; they are worthless. Some things remove the content from language; they remove from words its capacity to create. Word is what makes us human. Some examples are the Internet, the bulimia of reading, and the infinite flow of images. The metaphor begins with Adam taking the apple. Symbolically, he discovers the capacity that he possesses. It then ends with the Tower of Babel, now ever higher, as a symbol of the advancement of the technique. As today “Babel has never been so high / we have been closer to heaven / And together so alone, /far from all.”
