Rooted in the Catholic tradition and open to ecumenical, interreligious and cultural perspectives, the Catholic Bible Society (SOCABI) Its mission is to promote knowledge of the Bible and its interpretation in relation to contemporary social and cultural challenges among Christian communities and the general public. It favours four strategies of intervention: biblical animation, biblical formation, production and dissemination of biblical tools, creation or support of biblical networks. SOCABI was founded in 1940 in Canada, just before the publication of the Encyclical of Pius XII Divino Afflante Spiritu (1943) encouraging Catholics to study the Bible with modern methods of research and to disseminate the results.
