iThe Pontifical Biblical Institute, in collaboration with the Beyond Canon Centre (Regensburg), is organizing the international conference: “Discourses about the Divine: Language about Transcendence, Language transcending Borders.” This event will take place from April 22 to 23, 2026, at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. The conference aims to explore how ancient Jewish and Christian writings in Koine Greek address the fundamental challenge of theological language. Specifically, it examines how to express the being, speech, and actions of God through human language that must constantly balance fidelity to traditional models with expressive innovation. The investigation will focus on the development, transition, and contextualization of divine discourse between ancient Judaism and early Christianity. These themes will be analyzed within the literary, cultural, and socio-historical contexts of the Greco-Roman world. The conference will be conducted in English and is accessible to participants both in person and online. For further information, you can visit the official website at www.biblico.it.
