Canon and Interpretive Community
During the 35th Study Conference of the Spanish Biblical Association (ABE), taking place from June 15 to 17, 2026, in Valencia, participants will examine the theme “Canon and Interpretive Community: Identity, Authority, and Tradition.” In biblical and theological contexts, the concept of the canon refers to the official corpus of books recognized as Sacred Scripture. Because these texts are understood as divinely inspired, they hold normative authority over the faith and life of the Church. The formation of this canon was a gradual historical process, during which the interpretive community—namely, the early Church—discerned and recognized the inspiration of specific writings…

Among the core questions to be addressed is how the experience of political sovereignty in Antiquity—however partial and conditional—shaped Jewish self-perception and their understanding of power, as well as how the memory of these ancient experiences influences contemporary relationships to land and authority. Uncomfortable biblical questions
On Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 5:30 PM, the Rome headquarters of La Civiltà Cattolica (Via di Porta Pinciana 1) will host an event titled “Uncomfortable Biblical Questions,” organized in collaboration with the Georgetown University – Rome Office. We are often accustomed to approaching biblical texts in search of definitive answers. However, those who read them with care soon discover that the Bible is also—and perhaps primarily—a profound book of questions. These are inquiries posed by God to humanity and by humanity to God; they are restless, provocative, and at times deeply unsettling. Some questions are left suspended, while others…

Reinterpreting Mark “within Judaism”
As part of the research project conducted by the Department of Biblical Studies on New Testament texts as Jewish literature (“within Judaism”), a conference will be held on March 13 and 14 at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sicily. A Biblical Course for Disarming Violence
In his Apostolic Letter “Drawing New Maps of Hope” (marking the 60th anniversary of Gravissimum Educationis), Pope Leo XIV exhorts us to “educate in non-violent languages.” He explicitly calls upon Catholic educational institutions to strive to “disarm the word” so that it no longer functions like a bomb. Consequently, it is vital for a Faculty of Theology to establish the necessary tools to defuse the Word. A Catholic education must teach students “to lay down the weapons of aggressive speech and the judging gaze, learning instead the language of mercy and reconciled justice.” From February 19 to May 28, 2026,…

The star that guided the Wise men
Presented below is a text published several years ago by Father Frédéric Manns of the Custody of the Holy Land, who also served as the dean of the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum. With great insight, he guides us through the profound biblical significance of the “star,” a sign synonymous with the birth of Jesus and the journey of the Magi. His symbolic interpretation does not overlook the historical hypotheses proposed by scientists, which continue to grow in number (see, for example, the synthesis provided in the video by Answers in Genesis, a Christian apologetics community). A literal reading of the text…

An entire Bible written by hand
Launched in 2003 in Frankfurt during the Biblical Year declared by the Catholic and Protestant Churches, the initiative by the Daughters of St. Paul to copy the entire Bible by hand has today been enshrined as a museum piece. Over the years, bookstore patrons, passersby, families, and school groups all contributed to transcribing the sacred texts. Following the closure of the Frankfurt community in 2005, the project continued its course until the twelve volumes—ten of the Old Testament and two of the New—were finally completed and bound in 2018. However, the official conclusion was only marked recently due to the…
