As part of the research project conducted by the Department of Biblical Studies on New Testament texts as Jewish literature (“within Judaism”), a conference will be held on March 13 and 14 at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sicily. This event marks the conclusion of a two-year study dedicated to “The Jew Jesus, His Memory, and the Reading of the Synoptic Gospels within Judaism.” The conference aims to explore, from an exegetical perspective, how our understanding shifts when the Gospel of Mark—and its subsequent adaptations by Matthew and Luke—is not viewed through a retrospective lens that assumes a clean break between followers of Jesus and the broader Jewish world. Instead, the focus will be on interpreting these writings as texts situated within the ongoing construction and negotiation of Jewish identity during the Roman era. For further information, please click here. Remote participants will receive an email the day before the conference containing the connection link, as well as a link to download materials provided by the speakers.
