“Invitation to Read the Bible” is a project born from the fruitful collaboration between Sobicain (International Catholic Biblical Society) and the Aletti Center; each week, we offer key insights for reading a specific book of the Bible through a brief introduction and an explanation of the icon that opens the book. In the icon, we see the dialogue with God in suffering. The lamentations over the exiled people, stripped of everything, express humanity weeping over its distance from God (Lm 1). In His Passion, Christ took on human suffering, opening it up to dialogue with the Father. Consequently, pain no longer has the power to obscure the hope that is born of love.
