“Invitation to Read the Bible” is a project born from the fruitful collaboration between Sobicain (International Catholic Biblical Society) and the Aletti Center; each week, we offer key insights for reading a specific book of the Bible through a brief introduction and an explanation of the icon that opens the book. In the icon, we see the Prophecy of Emmanuel (Is 7). Isaiah, having become the very Word of God, announces a sign to Ahaz. The prophet shows the fulfillment of the prophecy in the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Mary, virgin and mother, delivers Emmanuel to humanity. He, the sprout from Jesse, is the source guiding the people to salvation.
